Revision Total Joint Surgery
In most cases, total joint replacement goes very well, allowing you to return to normal function with little or no pain. Sometimes, however, total joint replacement can fail for a number of reasons.
Total joint replacements can wear out, causing pain and inability to walk or function. In this case, a revision will have to be performed. Other reasons for revision include infection, bones breaking around the replacement, loosening, and others as well.
Signs of a problem with a total joint replacement includes pain and loss of function. If you suspect you have a problem after total joint replacement, Dr. Waddell specializes in figuring out exactly what could be wrong and offering a treatment to fix the problem.
In most cases, pain after total joint replacement can be cured with anti-inflammatories and physical therapy. Because you still retain muscles, tendons and ligaments after the total joint replacement, these can ache at times and cause pain. The therapy will strengthen the muscles around the joint and help stabilize the joint, while the anti-inflammatories will decrease inflammation and in turn, decrease pain.
