Bradford S. Waddell, MD
Fellowship Trained, Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dallas Hip and Knee Replacement Specialist
Pre-operative Medical Visit
All patients undergoing surgery with Dr. Waddell will first see their PCP or our IPA team to prepare you for surgery. Most importantly, this service will medically optimize you for surgery and ensure we have the best chance possible of avoiding any unrecognized medical conditions that can be eliminated or optimized.
Blood Thinners
Blood thinners can make surgery difficult and even unsafe. It is important to discuss with our team if you are on any blood thinners. We will make provisions with your primary care physician or cardiologist to stop or replace these during the peri-operative period.
Herbal Supplements/Weight loss products
The use of any weight loss products or herbal supplements must be discontinued 1-2 weeks prior to surgery. These products can interfere with bleeding control and anesthetic medications.
The Night Before Surgery
You should not eat anything after midnight. This is essential for the anesthesia team to safely work with you for the procedure. We do allow CLEAR liquids up to 4 hours before surgery. Please see our protocol for this information.
You will be called the day before to inform you of your surgery time and what time to arrive. Typically, you should arrive 2 hours before your surgery start time.
