Bradford S. Waddell, MD

Brad Waddell was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University of Shreveport in Biochemistry.  Following college, he earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.  Dr. Waddell completed a general surgery intern year at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans and followed this with his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Ochsner Clinic as well. Dr. Waddell then completed his Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York, New York.

Dr. Waddell joined Carrell Clinic in early 2021 after practicing in New York City and Southern Connecticut at the Hospital for Special Surgery.  He and his family returned to the South to be closer to their families.  He and his wife, Jenny, have three sons, Sutton, George and James. 

 

Dr. Waddell performs cutting edge surgery that allows his patients to regain mobility and activity at a rapid rate. The minimally invasive, muscle sparing approaches used will allow from a rapid return to activities. Dr. Waddell's areas of interest are outpatient total joint replacement, robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, muscle sparing surgery, anterior hip replacement, knee replacement, robotic assisted hip and knee replacement, revision hip and knee replacement and arthroscopic surgery. Further, Dr. Waddell has an interest in allowing patients with hip or knee arthritis return to an active lifestyle.

Over the last 10 years in practice, Dr. Waddell has performed thousands of successful total hip and total knee procedures. He prides himself in offering state-of-the art joint replacement while individualizing treatment plans for each patient. 

Dr. Waddell has been actively involved in research, health policy and healthcare reform. While in medical school, Dr. Waddell was a member of the House of Delegates for the Louisiana State Medical Society. Transitioning into residency, Dr. Waddell was selected for the Patient Safety Committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Further, throughout residency, Dr. Waddell served as a Resident Liaison to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In 2016, Dr. Waddell was selected as a Health Policy Fellow for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.  This experience will allow Dr. Waddell to interact with Orthopaedic leaders and United States lawmakers to shape the future of Orthopaedics and medicine in general. 

Dr. Waddell has published many peer-reviewed research articles, written multiple book chapters and contributed to magazine editorials throughout his career, including being featured in Reader's Digest.  He has presented over 100 podium and poster presentations nationally and internationally.

Throughout training, Dr. Waddell has been awarded for his clinical excellence and his dedication to patient care, research and professionalism. During residency, he was awarded the Alton Ochsner Resident Leadership Award. This is given to a single resident in the Ochsner system who displays outstanding leadership in proficient, compassionate and ethical care, mentorship and performance improvement.   He was also selected as an Emerging Leader for the American Orthopaedic Association.  This designation is an honor bestowed upon those young orthopaedic surgeons who have demonstrated the qualities, dedication, and skill required to become a future leader of the Orthopaedic field. Finally, during his fellowship at HSS, Dr. Waddell received the Hospital for Special Surgery Clinical Excellence Award for outstanding clinical skills and commitment to patient care.
